Wayne Butler is a consultant/paralegal who plays a key role in Monardo Solicitors’ family law practice.
Before deciding to study law, Wayne worked in IT, specialising in software and application architecture. For many years, he ran his own software company.
Since developing an interest in family law and, particularly, the policies that drive family law reform, Wayne has worked extensively in this specialist area of law. He has focused on bringing attention to the importance of shared parenting in the event of a marriage breakdown and on the principle that all children have the right to a meaningful relationship with both parents.
Wayne is the executive secretary of the Shared Parenting Council of Australia (SPCA), a non-profit volunteer parenting organisation committed to the concept of shared parenting being applied both in law and in practice. In this role, Wayne has been extensively involved in working for reform of family law. In 2003, he co-authored the SPCA submissions to the House of Representatives Inquiry into Shared Parenting (HORISP) and has authored a number of submissions to subsequent inquires.
Wayne also represents SPCA on the committee of the Child Support National Stakeholder Engagement Group (CSNSEG), which is an advisory body made up of parents’ organisations, research institutions and experts in child protection, family violence, social services, family relationships, legal aid and family law, as well as representatives from the Department of Social Services, Department of Human Services, the Attorney General’s Department and the Commonwealth Ombudsman. CSNSEG advises the Commonwealth government on issues relating to child support.
At the Fatherhood Forum in 2005, Wayne received an award in recognition of his leadership in family law reform and his compassion for Australian fathers and families.
At Monardo Solicitors, Wayne is able to pursue his passion for family law in a very practical way. He undertakes case-preparation work for the solicitors in the family law team and often liaises with clients in the early stages of their matters. His research skills, knowledge of family law and sensitivity towards anyone going through a marriage breakdown are highly valued by our family law clients.
Wayne is a Justice of the Peace.
